Main directions in the scientific research

The scientific research carried on within the laboratories and facilities of the Food and Animal Sciences Faculty, as part of the Iasi University of Life Sciences (IULS) is based on the approach of different specific topics, of wide interest, in the thematic fields of animal husbandry, sustainable development and food safety.

Among these ones, the most relevant directions are listed below:

  • improvement of the productions issued from the main species of economic interest; study on the productive adaptability of animals;
  • study on animal ethology peculiarities;
  • study of the adaptive capacity of various animal populations facing the new alternative husbandry systems;
  • management of those animal populations endangered or in critical extinction status;
  • monitoring of the transformations occurred in certain areas and their impact on the terrestrial and aquatic animal populations; research applied in animals’ nutrition and feeding;
  • genetic assessment of the animals’ production potential;
  • studying of the real possibilities to increase the production level and its quality;
  • increasing of the food safety degree, through the quality assessment on the food produced in farms and companies from eastern Romania and Republic of Moldova;
  • estimation and finding of higher capitalisation ways of the apicultural potential of the state border area between North-East Romania and Republic of Moldova;
  • assessment of the agri-touristic potential of the North-East Region;
  • research on the quality of the products registered as traditional, issued from the North-East area of Romania.

The mission and the strategy of the iasi animal sciences research centre and of the subsequent research laboratories

The mission of the Research Centres operating within the Faculty of Food and Animal Sciences is to plan, design and apply strategies designed to deliver a high level of performance in scientific research.

The main lines of action in the Animal Resources Research Centre are briefly outlined below:

  • practicing an efficient and complex management of scientific research activity;
  • orientation of the research carried out by Food and Animal Science Faculty vis-à-vis medium and long-term requirements and society’s expectations;
  • integration into the national and international research network and consortia;
  • the use of transparency in the decision-making process, in to develop a climate of trust and science the cooperation between the academic staff of the Faculty;
  • modernization and efficiency of heritage and a scientific research activity within the faculty. 

RESEARCH STRATEGY

The research strategy of the Faculty of Food and Animal Sciences focuses on various themes:

  • capitalizing on human potential and existing material resources, in order to develop interdisciplinary research programs with both scientific and economic impact;
  • alignment and modernization of experimental techniques, methods and procedures in accordance with international standards and laws in force in the field of animal production;
  • improving the research material base, by equipping the laboratories with appropriate equipment, in relation to their specialty;
  • the training of researchers and young master’s and doctoral students, to make them competitive on the European labour market;
  • promoting and disseminating the results obtained within the reference scientific meetings for the addressed field;
  • involvement in interdisciplinary research programs in partnership with national or foreign research entities;
  • periodic evaluation of performances – SWOT analysis and the promotion of a quality-oriented approach in the management of research projects.

CAPITALISATION OF THE SIGNIFICANT RESULTS ACHIEVED IN THE SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH ACTIVITY

The most valuable results of the Faculty, as an entity focused on education and research are quantified through the following aspects:

  • amount and value of the research contracts and grants won trough national and international calls and competitions;
  • research reports and syntheses delivered to the main beneficiaries of the research;
  • technological systems, methods and models produced and bearing intellectual property rights;
  • books, treaties, compendiums with novel scientific content, issued in cooperation with publishing houses recognised on national and international level;
  • scientific findings, communicated nationally and internationally and published in proceedings volumes;
  • articles published within specialty journals from Romania or from abroad, recognised nationally by C.N.C.S.I.S. or internationally (ISI or BDI quoted and indexed journals);
  • successfully concluded PhD dissertations;
  • representative members within academies or international organizations;
  • awards achieved nationally and internationally;
  • invention and innovation patents.
