Horticulture Specialization

The Profile of a Horticultural Engineer

Horticultural engineers are specialists in vine and fruit trees culture, flowers and vegetable growing. They also specialize in storing and processing fruit and vegetables, in producing wine and horticultural planting material.

The complex qualifications of horticultural engineers allow them to choose among varieties adapted to the harvest regions, to favorable sites and appropriate harvesting technologies.

The professional competences of horticultural engineers developed over the four years of bachelor studies are based on fundamental notions of biology, ecology and physiology of plants coupled with knowledge of agrometeorology, botanics, genetics, agrotechnology, pedology, topography, informatics, management, marketing and accountancy.

Professional prospects

Besides the main competences coupled with the establishment and management of horticultural exploitation, horticulture graduates possess the qualification that allows them to be active as:

 

  • sales and agriculture interventions agents;
  • border police specialized in phytosanitation;
  • professors;
  • researchers;
  • vegetable and fruit storage agents;
  • rural development agents and officials;
  • agents and laboratory technicians specialized in pedology, agrochemistry and plant protection;
  • vegetable and fruit industrialists;
  • wine cellar specialists.
